At Rettay Chiropractic, we have a weekly Health Care Class on Monday evenings. We understand some of the biggest factors influencing overall health are our lifestyle choices. Choices we make everyday. We develop habits in the way we eat, our activity levels, our sleep patterns, and the way we cope with the stresses of daily life. These choice can radically change every aspect of our health. They affect our body weight, energy levels, self-esteem, cardiovascular health, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and just about every other major health marker. What we have to accomplish daily does not have to control our life style decisions.

The Health Care Class is designed to address some of these lifestyle decisions and help you find ways to modify your current choices. Our goal is to help our patients make lifestyle choices they are comfortable with and will enjoy. We will never force a patient to make a change.  We believe you are in charge of your own health!

Our weekly Health Care Class on Monday evenings is open to everyone and offers an introduction into the three types of stresses/traumas that most affect health and how to naturally cope with them.

We will address any health topics that our patients request. Some of our more common topics are:

» nutritional counseling » weight reduction » tobacco usage
» stress reduction » sleep improvement » backpack safety (children)

The Health Care Class is a 45-minute introduction to wellness that is appropriate for all ages. Naturally, we will discuss individual concerns or problems in provate doctor/patient consultations

» Do I have to give up everything I like to have a healthy lifestyle?
A: Of course not. We work with you to setup a plan that includes only the changes you are comfortable with and are prepared to make. We understand the decision to change is yours and we expect it to be a gradual, tolerable experience.
» Are there any ways to reduce stress besides medication?
A: Absolutely! What most people call stress is merely the body’s physiological reaction to the varied emotional stimuli we all receive on a daily basis. Numerous studies have demonstrated that lifestyle change and certain types of activities such as meditation, yoga, and other forms of positive mental activity greatly reduce the effects of stress.
» To improve my diet will I have to buy a lot of vitamins or supplements?
A: While they are sometimes helpful, supplements are not the most effective way to improve your diet. Simple changes in eating patterns (more frequent smaller meals) and improving the quality of food you eat can radically improve your overall nutrition.
» Are there other ways to lose weight besides diet and exercise?
A: There are several approved surgical weight loss procedures. While these procedures can be successful, there is also a degree of risk. Additionally, people who have these procedures are likely to regain the weight if they don’t adopt some lifestyle changes.
» Why can’t I get to sleep at night?
A: Many people in our society allow external influences in their lives to completely override their body’s own internal rhythms. Our stressful lifestyles saturate our bodies with what are known as “stress hormones.”  We release these hormones into our system when we are under tension. The horomones tend to interrupt our natural sleep patterns.  We try to artificially control the problem with caffeine, alcohol, or prescription medications that further disrupt our natural sleep patterns. We often feel tired during daily activities and jittery or uneasy at night when we try to sleep.
