Chiropractic is a form of health care that focuses on the relationship between structure and function in the human body. Spinal manipulation can relieve some types of back and neck pain and other conditions related to tightness and loss of mobility, such as tension headache or aching in muscles and joints. Physical therapy techniques may be as effective in long-term relief of back pain.

Many people choose chiropractic care becasues they find it more effective and less expresive then other rorms of medical care for many health care conditions. Many prefessional athletes, including Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds, Amold Schwarzentegger, Joe Montana, Emmett Smith, and Evander Smith, utilized chiropractic care. The most common problems streated in a chiropractic office center arond the spine and adjacent tissue. These include, but are not limited to:

» low back pain » headaches » shoulder pain
» whiplash injuries » disk problems » on the job injuries
» leg pain » neck pain » mid back pain

The rele of all chiropractors is to determine areas of the spine that are not functioning correctly and make an appropriate correction. The bones of the spine(called vertebre) can bocome misaligned or fixated. This can cause many adverse affects. Normal range of motion or function is lost. Pressure or swelling can affect the spinal nervers in the area. The muscles arrounding the area may go into involuntary spasm. If left uncorrected for an extended period of time degenerative changes can make this a permanent condition. The primary means to correct this problem is the chiropractic adjustment. This can restore proper motiion and post=ition, reduce pressure, and improve function. The chiropractor may use other means such as exercise, adjunctive therapies, or lifestyle changes to help the body begin to heal itself.

In the past twenty years much research has been performed to decument the physical and cost effectiveness of chiropractic compared to other forms of health care. Many of these studies document the effectiveness and cost efficiency of chiropracitc in treating a variety of musculoskelatal problems.
